A look at four varied layouts of the 35 that'll attend the first World-of-Railways/BRM show of the south west. See you there!

It's our first model railway exhibition in partnership with The Association of Model Railway Clubs Wales & West of England. The Bristol Model Railway Exhibition will take place at Thornbury Leisure Centre at Alveston Hill, Thornbury, (Bristol BS35 3JB) on Friday April 29 – Sunday May 1, 2022.

If you want free entry and a free Hornby locomotive, subscribe to BRM with this amazing offer. See details here.

The three-day event held across three halls promises more than 35 layouts covering the UK, North America, Europe, and Japan. Here's a preview of four varied layouts attending:

Sidmouth

Sidmouth (OO)

Fact and fiction merge on Duncan Redford’s picturesque layout, based on the Shrewsbury to Hereford line, to depict a real village that never had a station. Its scenery with deep cuttings and variety of vegetation are sure to inspire many modellers looking for landscape advice.

Knot Littlefield

Knot Littlefield model railway

Good things can come in small packages and John Cox’s diminutive layout punches well for its size, with two tier operations and running water to boot. The layout uses many proprietory products, and kits, while its many detailed cameos are sure to keep viewers' eyes entertained.

Minories

Minories OO gauge layout

Based on a classic layout plan of the same name by the late Cyril Freezer – a long-time MRC member – this layout demonstrates a busy terminus station in a limited space using proprietary track available during its time of construction. It's a great demonstration of construction a layout that works from an existing trackplan.

Freshwater

Freshwater model railway (EM)

Built in 4mm:1ft scale to EM gauge (18.2mm), this layout is based on the track layout of Freshwater on the Isle Of Wight as it would have been, circa 1930. Locomotives, rolling stock and track were scratch-built to fine standards.

Whether you're new to the hobby, looking to take your modelling to the next level, or a seasoned modeller, we hope you'll find the layouts entertaining, and inspirational. Take a look at the full list here, with a selection of common – and not so common – gauges attending. For more general information about the show, click here.
