Heljan's new batch of OO gauge Class 33 locomotives is arriving with retailers. Howard Smith examines the altered tooling for depicting the Class toward the end of their lives.

Alongside a new livery applied to its original Class 33 tooling, depicting the 33025 Sultan in its as-built condition, but painted in BR blue with a grey roof, Heljan has created tooling modifications for modellers of the late BR blue – present day era. Offering eight new liveries covering the most popular – and one obscure, though favourite – liveries of the Class from the 1980s to the present are:

  • 33012 in weathered BR blue (3450)
  • D6515 Lt Jenny Lewis RN in BR green with small yellow panels (3451)
  • 33042 in weathered Railfreight Construction (3453)
  • 33063 in Mainline freight grey (3454)
  • 33021 Eastleigh in post office red (3455)
  • 33030 in EWS maroon and gold (3456)
  • 33029 in West Coast Railway Company maroon (3458)

Models are arriving with Heljan stockists this month and retailer exclusives at a later date. Some of its previous livery releases are still available with some retailers, too, including twin locomotive packs and locomotive and wagon packs – ideal for modelling a complete train during lockdown.
