The return of Young Volunteers Training Week at Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways

The ‘Young Volunteers Training Week’, previously known as ‘Kids Week’, has long been regarded as an important source to encourage more active volunteers, and the event will be returning this year between 1-6th August.

The pandemic prevented the event from taking place in 2020, and the team this year is making the necessary changes to ensure all attendees will feel secure. This time, there will be 31 young volunteers, and the week will offer the attendees experience in many aspects of the very varied FR/WHR activities.

The week will start with a briefing for the young volunteers, which will not only include information about the activities in which they will be involved but also about the railways application for a National Heritage Lottery Fund grant towards the £4 million interpretation and conservation project at Boston Lodge.

Both railways would have difficulty in maintaining services without the help of volunteers, who participate in all the background activities which keep the trains running including working on the track, signalling, building repairs, keeping the stations looking neat and tidy, as well as driving the trains.
