The prestigious recognition is granted in acknowledgment of Mr. Lee’s commitment to the railway industry and his significant charitable work over many decades and coincides with Statfold Barn Railway's 20th Anniversary.
A passionate advocate for preserving the UK’s railway heritage, Graham Lee has been instrumental in establishing Statfold as one of the country’s foremost centres for narrow gauge railway preservation. Under his leadership, the Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum Trust has grown into a thriving hub for enthusiasts, families, and educational groups alike.
In addition to his work with Statfold, Mr. Lee has supported numerous charities and heritage organisations, contributing time, expertise, and funding to causes that promote education, community engagement, and historical preservation.
Reacting to the news, Graham Lee said: “I found out about the MBE around a month ago and was taken aback to have been considered, let alone awarded one. I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this recognition. Railways have been a lifelong passion, and it has been a privilege to work alongside so many dedicated individuals who share that enthusiasm. This award is as much a tribute to them as it is to anything I have done personally. I hope it brings further attention to the importance of preserving our railway heritage for future generations.”
