Unable to hold the traditional members day in Taunton, last weekend saw members of RMweb come together for a "virtual exhibition" raising money for the NHS Together Charities.
Most of the money was raised through a raffle of items generously donated by the model railway trade.
Deprived of their normal pasties, cake and tea refreshments, catering manager Stu Hilton set up a "virtual" cafe allowing visitors to donate to the cause for food and drinks they wouldn't be eating - this raised over £650 towards the total!
For entertainment, members posted photographs and specially recorded videos of their layouts. The event provided a great opportunity to see models that certainly wouldn't all fit in the normal village hall the real event is held in. Alongside the layouts, were demonstrations from some of the countries top modellers and interviews with leading lights from the hobby trade.
The layout area of the forum saw nearly 13,000 views during the event - a number that is growing as all the content will remain available on RMweb.co.uk in the future.
Organiser Andy York said, "It was a terrific event. RMweb members all pitched in and got involved. While we miss our traditional get-together, this geat substitute and all the members and readers raised far more than I had dared to hope for charity."
