Orient Express – soon available in Lego

Lego Ideas has presented its set of the Orient Express, reproduced "as faithfully as possible" from the Pacific PLM 231 K 8 locomotive and carriages from the golden age of the International Night Wagon Company in the 1930s.

The website run by Chaordix and The Lego Group, allows users to submit ideas for Lego products to be turned into potential sets available commercially, with the original designer receiving 1% of the royalties.

This new version of the famous train has one less coach than a previous version, and the number of parts has been optimised to stay under the 3000-piece limit. 

The Orient Express took thousands of passengers across Europe to Istanbul from 1919 to 2009, and has been the scene of great adventures, TV dramas and films, such as those of detective Hercule Poirot. 

Its creator said, "I designed it as I would like to have it for myself – a piece that you want to display and always rediscover thanks to the countless small details. In addition to the locomotive and tender, I have included the restaurant car with its removable roof, to discover the interior!"

The project reached the 10,000 supporter threshold in March this year, before the project was approved as a Lego set on October 25. Details, pricing and availability are expected to appear on the Lego website nearer the yet-to-be-announced release date.
