New 3D-printed wagons from DR3D

New kid on the block, DR3D, has released new 5-plank private owner wagons based on Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Co practice.

The latest releases are of two different 5-plank dumb buffered private owner wagon models, priced at £15 each and suitable for the late 19th century up until 1914 when such wagons were banned from the main railway system, although they lasted much longer as an internal user or on industrial systems not covered by the RCH agreements.

The prints differ over the side door arrangements, one having a full-height door, the other a 4-plank high door. You get a body print complete with integral brake gear and separate axle box and spring assemblies with the choice of w-irons and whether to build a ridged or compensated chassis left to the builder and the prints can be built to OO, EM or P4 gauges.

Other models available in the DR3D range include Great Western Railway standard gauge and broad gauge wagons, including GWR 1, 2 and 3 plank wagons, as well as ex-Cornish Mineral Railways iron-bodied china clay tippler wagons and the diagram S7 bar sided fish wagon, which were in service in the pre-grouping period and in some cases much later.

The range's philosophy is to make a finescale approach as easy as possible and to this end, while the prints are not complete kits - they are aids to very simple scratch-building - the instructions provide advice on suitable parts, such as w-irons and buffer heads, to complete the wagons, as well as the types of tools a novice scratch-builder might need.

More wagons are currently in development, as well as 6-wheeled and bogie coaching stock for both standard gauge and broad gauge.
