Middleton Press to continue Vic Mitchell legacy

Following the sad passing of founder, Vic Mitchell, last month, the team at Middleton Press will aim to continue his legacy and complete the Ultimate Rail Encyclopaedia.

Vic Mitchell, founder of Middleton Press of West Sussex created one of the largest collections – if not the largest – of railway books, each dedicated to a line section, with the tag line, 'evolving the ultimate rail encyclopaedia'.

Vic’s daughter, Deborah, acknowledged the enormous task ahead and says she is hugely thankful for the invaluable input from Middleton Press’s existing authors and contributors, saying that without them and her father’s vast historical and technical knowledge she, husband Ray and Production Editor Cass would have an almost impossible challenge on their hands.

The team is seeking new contributors, local railway historians, or anyone with material or photographs on areas not already covered – mainly Northern England and West Scotland/Highlands.

I met Vic at least once, calling in at Easbourne which I know well having spent some of WW2 at school at Lodsworth, to help with the supply of some information concerning one of Middleton's books. I am sorry to hear of his passing, please accept my condolences. David
