Hornby has revealed the latest OO locomotive to get installed with its steam generator technology; SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 21C1 Channel Packet.

Following in the footsteps of other famous locomotives in the range, including the LNER Class P2 2-8-2 Prince of Wales No. 2007 and the Class W1 No. 10000 ‘Hush Hush’, the SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 21C1 Channel Packet will feature the innovative technology, which provides the ability to produce great clouds of water vapour, which will billow through the locomotive’s chimney.

Almost certain to be a popular choice with many modellers and collectors, the new model is due to arrive in February 2026 and is priced at £364.99.

The model includes the same features as other steam generator locomotives in the range, however, the chamber and the steam generator included is bespoke (as is the case with each model), with the highest quality of sound.

Locomotive 21C1 Channel Packet was the first of the Class, entering service in 1941 at Salisbury and then Exmouth Junction from 1942. Renumbered 35001 under British Railways in 1948, Channel Packet was allocated to Stewarts Lane from 1957 until rebuilding in 1959.
