The models are close to being signed off for production - subject to a few minor improvements - and Heljan plan to deliver them to UK retailers in the final quarter of this year.

No fewer than 12 versions are being prepared for general release, plus an exclusive edition for TMC, covering the entire BR career of the late-bodied Class 25 variant.

Standard features include LED lighting, 21-pin DCC interface, provision for DCC sound, all-wheel pickup and drive, authentic early and revised exhaust designs, fine bogie, underframe and body detail, etched mesh grilles and sprung buffers.

The model represents the final development of the 478 Derby/Sulzer Type 2s, which started with Class 24 in the late-1950s. The model will cover the D5238-99 and D7500-D7677 batches, built by Derby Works and Beyer, Peacock of Manchester between December 1963 and April 1967 and used by BR until the late-1980s.
