Seathorne Bank on the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway, due to be opened on 28th June 2025, has received its first passenger-carrying steam train.
The photos, taken by LCLR volunteer Dave Enefer, show the LCLR’s 1903-vintage 0-6-0ST Jurassic with carriages from the former Ashover Light Railway and the Nocton Estates Railway, both more than 100 years old.
Work continues to finish the station (painting, internal fittings, completion of grounds etc.) so passengers on the services from Walls Lane ,in the Skegness Water Leisure Park, on Saturday 24th May 2025 were able to admire the repurposed building – the former Great Northern Railway Coal Office dating from 1887, which from 1947 until recently, was the office of the owners of the Park, Ellis Bros (Contractors) Ltd. Passengers were asked to re-board the train for its return journey and not remain on site, as detail work continues on the site.
There will be another opportunity for the public to inspect progress on the new station, when the LCLR operates a service using a heritage diesel locomotive on services on Saturday 14th June 2025 in connection with the arrival at Skegness Interchange of the new-build express steam locomotive Tornado on an enthusiasts’ excursion from the south of England.
