With over 60 layouts in attendance across a wide spectrum of gauges, eras and locations, there will be something for everyone at The National Festival of Railway Modelling. With only SEVEN weeks until the doors open, here are 10 layouts that we are really keen to see, but to be honest, we think they are all fantastic and worth a visit.

BOURNEMOUTH WEST – OO

The Salisbury & South Wilts Railway Society acquired this stunning layout to keep exhibiting Roger Sunderland's popular creation. This will be one of its first outings under new ownership, and we’re thrilled to see it back on the road again.

SCARLINGTON – N

Scarlington is the successor to Scarworth Junction (NoEL1). Both were built as club layouts, and both were subsequently bought by a group of friends who built both layouts (The NoEL Group), to secure them from an uncertain future. This fantastic layout comes packed with scenic details and entertaining cameos that will keep the crowds entertained for hours!

CAMPBELL’S QUARRY – 32MM

Scratch-built working machinery and skilful operation combine to provide this great exhibition spectacle. Campbell's Quarry demonstrates that it's possible to build large scales in small spaces but packs enough operation to entertain visitors at exhibitions where it has won several ‘Best of Show’ awards.

PORTCHULLIN – P4

'Portchullin' is based on the real line to Kyle of Lochalsh that, for its last few miles, hugs the side of Loch Carron and contains a series of short embankments and bridges over small inlets. Childhood memories and a challenge set by the Scalefour Society sowed the seeds for this evocative P4 layout.

TRINITY DOCK STREET BRIDGE – OO

Set among the stone-covered streets of the old town docks in the early part of February 1939, this is a layout somewhat different from the 'norm'. The model portrays a dark and dismal morning, with the south-easterly wind bringing a ‘Sea Rouge’ up the Humber and mixing with the soot and smoke of the industrial heart of the city of Hull. Not only does it bring the foul weather, but also the threat of war from the near continent!

WOLFE LOWE – O

This wonderful pre-grouping scene boasts many interesting kit-built locomotives and stock, but its quarry with scale loading of wagons is perhaps its biggest gem.

YORKSHIRE PENNINES – N

Demonstrating excellent use of computer control, this exhibition crowd-pleaser provides a surround-viewing experience not to be missed, inspired by an area of outstanding natural beauty.

WEAVER HILL - OO

For the sheer pleasure of running trains, a loop circuit without a specific era is hard to beat! If you love to lean on the railings and watch plenty of train action, this layout is a must-visit.

PWLLHELI – P4

One of our favourite layouts to feature in BRM last year, this amazing layout showcases some top-notch modelling and a huge variety of action on the rails.

Overlord – OO

Chris Mead's magnificent, ever growing, quayside scene records the run-up to D-Day 80 years ago. Marvel at the ships, engineering and military hardware as much as the railway models which feature some unusual prototypes.
