As the Coronavirus situation continues, so many of our regular steam and vintage events have been curtailed. When Anthony Coulls youngest daughter, Charlotte, aged 14, saw the decimation of the events she loved and was looking forward to, she came up with the idea of a virtual steam rally.
Initially on Twitter, along the lines of the TwitterModelTrainShow last month, the event will see both large and small scale steam action and vintage vehicles take part.
As not everyone is on Twitter, the team created a Facebook group to allow more people to share their engines and vintage kit online across the internet, large and small on 9th May.
We're all missing our friends and the unique rally atmosphere, and the appetite for the event was such that over 2300 people had joined the group within two days of its inception.
Mechanical Music Radio has signed up as a supporter and partner for the event and will be broadcasting the sounds of a rally online on the evening of the event, including some beer tent singing. Other partners are lining up to be involved in this hopefully never to be repeated event, and we can look forward to a unique experience uniting the vintage fraternity internationally.
Photos, videos, live streaming, all are welcome. Bring your own beer, chips and doughnuts and everyone will enjoy our wonderful hobby hopefully across the world in safety from our gardens, yards, fields and sheds!
You don't have to have an exhibit to take part, just search on Facebook or Twitter for #TwitterSteamRally and see what happens and who shares what. From Mamods to Marshalls, it's all going to be there!
