Planet Industrials announce a kit for the Clayton 25t diesel shunter

In 2000 Clayton built a pair of 25t diesel hydraulics at their Hatton works in Derby (home to the infamous Class 17s - these days they're based out of Burton Upon Trent in a much more modern facility). Their lives are shrouded in secrecy on the Devonport dockyard involved with the re-fit of the Navy's nuclear fleet, hence they're fairly camera shy, but have been spotted a few times and are visible on Google Earth! Their relative compact nature makes them a great model in OO gauge, and they are a perfect companion to the new Accurascale mega nuclear flask wagons.

Planet Industrials, with help from Clayton in terms of technical drawings, are producing a kit of this diminutive modern image shunter in 1:76.2 scale OO gauge. The kit follows the same concept as their successful Hibberd Planet (featured in BRM in May 2020) comprising of a 3D printed core structure with etched nickel silver overlays and 3D printed detail parts. This time it goes one step further and features a custom-designed power unit that can be assembled without solder.

At this stage the kit is still in development, these photos show the prototype and the design is being tweaked slightly for final production with release slated for late 2020, early 2021. Price is TBC, but expected to be around £120 for a complete kit.
