World of Railways Virtual Exhibition

Like any model railway exhibition, we’re giving you 30 minutes of early access time to browse all of our layouts. Make sure you come back to this page, though, as we’ll be updating with new content every 15 minutes!

The backbone of any show is the layouts; we have selected some of our favourite layouts, which have featured in the pages of BRM over the years with full articles, photos and video to bring you the visitor experience of learning about the models on show and hear from the builders. You will get to see the layouts in action. The next best thing to being there!

Now, go grab a cup of tea and enjoy!

Watch our video teaser for some of the content to be presented during our Virtual Exhibition, with more than 20 layouts and some of the biggest names in the hobby presenting their tips.

As part of its #BigWORshow Part II, world-of-railways has teamed up with YouTube channel Railway Mania. Hosted by Corwin Bainbridge, the official podcast for #BigWORshow Part II aires today at 18:00 GMT.

In this special 20-minute long preview to the event, Corwin speaks with the WoR team about the show and what to expect during the exhibition, while throwing in a few wild cards. Discover the team's favourite layouts, what they like most about exhibitions, plus witty banter.

An hour-long un-cut version of the podcast is to be aired on the Railway Mania YouTube channel on Tuesday, November 3.

Home to the Railway Mania Podcast and the Sudrian Histories project, Railway Mania is a hub for railway enthusiast entertainment, including videos on real-life railways as well as modelling builds and tutorials. The Railway Mania Podcast is available to listen on all podcasting apps, as well as being hosted on the Railway Mania YouTube channel.

Learn with hands-on advice

Re-booted with all-new stars on the back of the widely-acclaimed first exhibition, this second #BigWORshow features practical content covering many diverse subjects around the hobby, with interviews from running a model railway retail business during an epidemic with TMC, to maintaining locomotives for better running with Tony Wright, top tips for making a lake with Carol Flavin – even an interview with Holger Mattes, author of The Lego train Book! Plus, discover how the group running ‘Fence Houses’ have kept in touch during the pandemic as they lay down a challenge for modellers. This and much more, covering the many facets of railway modelling, with some of the biggest names in the hobby presenting their top tips to make you a better modeller.

Joining these will be more than 20 carefully curated layouts in gauges from N to Gauge 1 and narrow gauges, covering many eras.

Win great prizes!

It’s competitions galore across the weekend and we’ll be giving away excellent models to some lucky competition winners. Test your observation skills with our ‘spot the difference’ challenges, or write a witty sentence with our caption competition. Prizes range from fantastic locomotives, to rolling stock or a scenic accessory for a model railway, or future project.

Remembrance Sunday

In memory of those who’ve lost their lives at war, we’ll be showcasing a selection of model railways with a military theme – a miniature compilation of life-like scenes to honour those who’ve fought in the name of freedom.

New models announced

In addition to our interviews with model manufacturers, this show will host a number of live new model announcements, from Dapol, Heljan, Planet Industrials and more. Be sure to tune in across the weekend to find out what these are!

We welcome everyone to our official opening on Saturday, November 7 at 09:30 GMT for two days only of unmissable fun and family-friendly model railway entertainment and exciting challenges.

What you may have missed

Following the success of our first #BigWORshow event in July, which drew more than 100,000 visitors to our website over the weekend – more than at any model railway show in the UK – and with such fantastic feedback, we’ve proved the concept of a virtual exhibition works.

This time around, we intend to introduce new features to make the user experience even better. We’re also planning the content to be even bigger and better than before.

Some features that made the previous show a success will, of course, remain, including our live feed, which, like last time, will be populated with new content at least every 10 minutes!

We’re really excited to welcome everyone to our official opening on Saturday, November 7 at 09:30 GMT for two days of fantastic model railway entertainment and exciting challenges. Don't miss it – we'll see you there, virtually, of course!
