BRM Cake Box Challenge 2021 - Lotaware WRD

Builder: Robert Page

Upon starting this cakebox challenge I didn’t have a clear idea what to build but I wanted to use things I already had to hand and not buy more.

Rummaging in my spares box I found a Scalesceens download for a low relief warehouse I had printed but never used. By reducing the space between the doors this fitted perfectly within the box footprint. A couple of track offcuts and a bit of ply leftover from a previous layout and I had a basic plan.

The warehouse substructure, retaining wall and track infill are all made with recycled card packaging clad with Scalesceens papers. The Bedford lorry is an Oxford Diecast model with a lengthened chassis fitted with a Kibri crane and an alternative bed. I had been collecting parts for this for some time intending to use it on my main layout but requisitioned it for this instead. The wagon wheel loads also count as rubbish in my book as they are EM gauge ones I took off second-hand wagons I re-wheeled and would otherwise thrown away. A fence made of corrugated foil and matchsticks and a spare wagon rounded it off.
