Vandals of Market Deeping Model Railway Club sentenced to pay £500 compensation

Three teenagers charged with the destruction of Market Deeping’s Model Railway Club exhibition have each been ordered to pay £500 compensation to the club.

Four youths were arrested, aged 15 and 16, after they broke into the sports hall at Stamford Welland Academy in the early hours of Saturday, May 18. Three of the boys all pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal damage at Lincoln Youth Court yesterday and sentencing of the fourth child has been postponed to September 2. All of the teenagers apologised in court.

According to sources, none of the three boys have any money, the financial responsibility falls on the parents to pay the compensation.

The cost of the damage caused by the boys is said to be close to £30,000, but this doesn’t come close to the devastation felt by the exhibitors, who had layouts destroyed that had taken years to build, reducing many of the members to tears when they arrived the following morning. Trade stands we’re also destroyed, costing businesses hundreds of pounds in lost stock.

Following the mindless vandalism, more than £100,000 was raised through a crowd-funding page, money that the club is aiming to use to further promote the hobby and encourage younger members to join.
