Watch how RTR models are painted

Have you looked at painting your models and wondered how manufacturers achieve such a flawless finish? It can be difficult to match the finesse of batch-sprayed models from a factory, even when you've the best airbrush setup at home. Kernow Model Rail has commissioned its own batch of Bulleid 1-Co-Co-1 RTR locomotives from a Chinese factory over the past few years - a model exclusive to the retailer. We've seen its models of 10201 and 10202 emerge in lined BR green and original British Railways lined black, but news came in October of last year that in response to customer demand a further batch of Bulleid diesels had been arranged with the factory.

The first models will be certified limited editions of 150 pieces and will be supplied with numbered certificates of authenticity and an appropriate named train headboard. The headboard will be supplied loose in the box for customer fitment.

Impressed? We are! Though bogie components with intricate raised detail benefit from being sprayed manually to ensure an even coverage of paint, it's interesting to watch this automated process.
