Accurascale’s genetically-modified General Motors-built locomotives are a hit; here are six reasons why you need to rush to the shops to buy one (if they are not all sold out already!) and how you could win one by booking a ticket to our new show at the NEC this November.
1. So much choice
Within the 25-year life we have seen so far of these locomotives, there are numerous differences and these are well demonstrated by Accurascale – the range covers the life from the very first locomotive, 66001, in original form when commissioned in 1998, through to the last built, 66779Evening Star of 2016, which should become part of the National Collection at the end of its 40-year anticipated life.
2. Bogie detail
The exceptional bogie detail extends to revolving axleboxes; this Achilles’ heel of the original model is now fixed.
3. Haulage ability
Weighing in at over 700g, the package with all-wheel electrical pick-up and drive gives stunning haulage capabilities.
4. Accurathrash!
Sound enthusiasts also benefit from the inclusion of both a sugarcube speaker and Accurathrash bass speaker in the sound-fitted options; which now include a flange squeal triggered by sensors on tighter curves without the need for a separate function.
5. Decoration
The livery colours and decoration of the review models is excellent, down to the finest of print, with excellent etched nameplates.
6. Simple lift-off panel
Further improvements include a simple lift-off exhaust roof panel section to access the decoder socket and configure the dip switches. The inside of the model has seen an upgrade too, and the cab interior unclips easily from inside the body.
