Revolution Trains is to offer a limited run N gauge model of Class 66 locomotive 66301 in its striking GBRf/Drax power gold livery in N gauge.
The locomotive was repainted in the unique livery by Arlington at Eastleigh to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Drax power station opening in 1974. It was named Drax Power Station 50 in a ceremony at Drax on August 18th 2024.
Drax is the UK’s largest power station and generates 6% of the nation’s electricity needs. It has fully switched over to renewable biomass for energy production. Drax is also leading the way in Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS)
This model - licensed exclusively to Revolution - is a last-minute addition to their range of Class 66s in production now, and expected in early 2025.
Revolution has also produced the gold IIA-D biomass hopper wrapped by Drax as part of the celebrations. The majority of models in this limited run were given to Drax employees to mark the occasion, however, a limited number have been made available for sale direct online.
Both these models associated with Drax will enable Revolution, yet again, to raise funds for Drax’s adopted charity, Martin House Hospice. Sales of the original Drax hoppers produced last year enabled them to hand over £2000, and Revolution are optimistic that they will be able to smash through that total with these two models.
Revolution Director Ben Ando said: “We were delighted when Drax asked us to produce models of the gold IIA-D wagon to help them celebrate their 50th birthday, and when we saw the matching loco we knew we had to offer it too!.”
