Revolution announces new Hunslet 0-6-0DH

Revolution Trains reveals plans to offer the diminutive Hunslet 0-6-0DH industrial shunter in OO gauge 1:76.2 scale.

One of Hunslet’s most successful designs, more than 50 of these locomotives were built between 1965 and 1989 for a variety of industrial customers and many continue in use today either in private sidings or on preserved railways.

The biggest user was the National Coal Board (British Coal), however, other operators have included British Steel, BP, Total, Esso, Central Electricity Generating Board, Lafarge Aggregates, Workington Docks, Caledonian Paper and BNFL at Sellafield. Spot hire locos owned by Harry Needle and RMS Locotec have also worked in a wide variety of locations

Over the years, both 50t and 55t versions have been built with variations in footplate equipment boxes, lighting, engine air breathers, handrails and sandboxes, and Revolution’s tooling allows for most of these to be accommodated. Models will be offered with or without flashing roof lamps according to the prototype.

In the first tranche of models, Revolution is offering the following versions:

  • HE6614 1965 NCB/503 Two-tone green (no roof beacon)
  • HE7017 1971 Harry Needle/29 Grey/orange (with roof beacon)
  • HE7543 1979 British Steel/403 Yellow (with roof beacon)
  • HE8999 1981 Esso/Redwing Red (with roof beacon)

These first four launch liveries are expected to be joined by other variants as the project moves forward.

The model is being produced with the full support of Hunslet Locomotive Company in Leeds, and the order book is expected to open in the next few months, with products shipping to customers in early 2026.
