The manufacturer reveals new additions to its 2021 range of rolling stock for 'OO'.
Oxford Rail has revealed a new tooling, soon to join its growing range of rolling stock for OO gauge. Two livery variants of a Great Eastern Railway design 10T banana van are to be produced, representing the vehicles in LNER as 632822 (OR76BAN001) and BR E632899 (OR76BAN002) guises.
The Great Eastern Railway didn't possess vans for banana traffic, hiring vans from other companies, instead. The GER would often run trains of 20-25 vans, and following the return of the traffic after WWI, an order for 100 vans was placed with hand and vacuum brakes, with steam-heating to help ripen the fruit.
The vans were completed in 1923, being the last GER design of van constructed, and they lasted into the 1960s.
