ALD Print is working on the popular Ruston 48DS in 7mm scale and showed their first Engineering Prototype at the Festival of British Railway Modelling.
ALD Print plans to produce the locomotive as a kit of 3D printed parts, just like the Class 02 shunter which Phil Parker built in the June 2018 issue of BRM.
Because of the tiny size of the prototype, the intention is to include a 3D printed steel chassis to provide plenty of essential weight and ensure the model can shunt wagons as well as the real thing. Appropriate Slater's wheels will be included in the package.
This project is in partnership with Digitrains, who will produce a DCC sound chip to fit the loco. Not only are Digitrains experts in DCC sound, but they are also located a short distance from the former Ruston factory where these locomotives were manufactured.
As with the earlier kit, parts are described as simple enough for anyone who has assembled a plastic kit to put together.
ALD Print has told us that the kit should be available by June this year. More detail will be available on the website.
