KR Models has shown some of the tooling that will produce their OO gauge model of English Electric GT3
KR Models has released photos showing the factory injection mould tools for their forthcoming OO gauge model of English Electric gas turbine locomotive GT3.
The unique prototype was built in 1961 by English Electric at their Vulcan Foundry. Although it looked like a traditional steam tender locomotive, the "tender" carried kerosene fuel and the body, the gas turbine engine and mechanical transmission. Using a traditional chassis arrangement and mechanical transmission avoided complicating the prototype with relatively untried technologies with regard to bogie assemblies and electrical transmission.
Despite some success, the project was too late to change plans for the large scale introduction of diesel. GT3 was scrapped in 1965 but has always been a favourite with enthusiasts.
The pictures clearly show the tools to produce the main locomotive, some smaller parts and the cab representing a significant investment by KR Models in their first locomotive, which should be delivered to customers by the middle of 2020.
