New arrival: Hornby 0-6-0 'Sentinel'

Howard Smith examines Hornby's new 0-6-0 'Sentinel' shunter for OO gauge in the green livery of Stanton Ironworks as No.57.

It came as a surprise when announced for its 2022 range in January this year, but Hornby's decision to follow up on its popular 0-4-0 version of these shunters made sense. Small industrial shunters hold much appeal for enthusiasts, and the Sentinels being so widespread and long-lived makes them justifiable additions to many layouts. Of course, there are many enthusiasts that will want a model regardless, such is their magnetic attraction.

We soon discovered however that the model was already tooled, and now, just a few months later, models are arriving with stockists and customers who pre-ordered.

Hornby kindly sent us a sample of (R30085), in the green livery carried by shunters at Stanton Ironworks. Sentinel works number 10214 carried the nameplate Stanton No. 57. Howard Smith takes a look at the model below:
