Drewry shunter to join Connoisseur range

Connoisseur Models has extended its 7mm:1ft scale model range, in offering an etched kit for the Drewry-built 0-6-0, 204hp, diesel-mechanical shunter, classed as 04 under British Railways. Priced at £280.00, the kits are available to order via its website.

The manufacturer describes the kit as: "a sophisticated etched kit which once completed will have a level of finish & detail that will enable it to sit alongside the excellent factory produced locomotives from Heljan, Dapol & Minerva." Alternative parts are included to enable the modelling of a BR Class 04 for main line & tramway working, or a locomotive supplied direct for industrial operation. Connoisseur Models' proprietor, Jim McGowen recommends downloading the instructions in advance to evaluate the kit and determine its suitability before purchase.

The Drewry Car Co. supplied bespoke diesel-mechanical shunting locomotives to operators throughout Britain & across the world. They were configured to individual requirements. The 204hp, 0-6-0s were built in considerable numbers, and were developed as a larger and more powerful complement to the original 153hp 0-4-0 that had proved highly successful.

British Railways purchased from 1952, 15 locos of this initial design, D2200-D2203 noted for working on the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway & D2204-D2214 distributed throughout the British Railways system. A number of the locomotives remain in operation today on preserved railways & heritage sites.
